As the eviction of the Zuccotti Park encampment was underway, our team went to work to create a selection of tools that could be used to help Occupiers establish an encampment at a new location. Rapid Response Project #1: We created a mobile structure that could affect the way Occupiers physically related to one another and to space. Even if the attempted occupation was unsuccessful, images of the police dismantling the structure, which looked like a home, would be an iconic way of symbolizing the Zuccotti Park eviction (and evictions more generally). The deployment worked well. With key organizers in jail, there were no leaders encouraging people to go over the fence into the new location. The home structure was the first thing to go over the fence, emboldening the crowd to follow.
