On the eve of the 10th anniversary of the Seattle World Trade Organization protests, please join us:
This Is What Democracy Looks Like (2000) and Battle in Seattle (2007)
The early 90s were a low point for the Americas. NAFTA had passed, the guerrilla had been murdered in the mountains, the unions were being broken. . . history had ended.  But 10 years ago, we opened a tear in the fabric of that political reality. Suddenly it was possible to imagine futures that we had not allowed ourselves to see, and remember pasts we had been trained to forget.
On the 10th Anniversary of the protests that shut down the WTO in Seattle, join your friends from Big Noise and Not An Alternative as we reflect back and look forward. Celebrate the anniversary of our victory, hang out and play drinking games while we laugh at Ray Liotta playing Mayor Paul Schell with a bit too much eyeliner, and Andre 3000 cribbing lines from Hop Hopkins.  Join Seattle vets and the Copenhagen-bound as we trace the trajectory from then to now, and beyond.
BYOB encouraged, popcorn provided.
ABOUT BIG NOISE FILMS
Big Noise Tactical is a collective of media-makers dedicated to circulating beautiful, passionate, revolutionary images. We are not filmmakers producing and distributing our work. We are rebels, crystallizing radical community and weaving a network of skin and images, of dreams and bone, of solidarity and connection against the isolation, alienation and cynicism of capitalist decomposition.
ABOUT THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE
This Is What Democracy Looks Like, a co-production of the IMC and Big Noise Films, weaves the footage of over 100 videographers into a gripping document of what really happened on Seattle’s streets. The film cuts through the confusion and tear gas to paint an intimate, passionate portrait of a week that changed the world. With narration by SUSAN SARANDON and SPEARHEAD’s MICHAEL FRANTI, and with a driving soundtrack including RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, DJ SHADOW, DJ MUSAKA, and COMPANY OF PROPHETS, This Is What Democracy Looks Like is the first documentary to capture the raw energy of the WTO protests, while clarifying their global and historic significance.
The Independent Media Center provided a production infrastructure for over 450 media activists during the WTO protests in November 1999. With autonomous, volunteer-run media centers operating in four continents, ten countries andtwenty-one cities, the IMC represents a new and powerful emerging model for independent media.
“The IMC isn’t waiting for the oldguard media to tell the true story. . . the IMC is simply doing the job itself, reporting directly form the front lines.” Naomi Klein, author of NO LOGO

ABOUT BATTLE IN SEATTLE
In November of 1999, Seattle broke into a full-scale state of emergency as thousands of peaceful protestors gathered in resistance to the World Trade Organization. The city’s mayor, a SWAT cop on the streets and his pregnant wife, and four demonstrators are caught in the crossfire as their lives intersect in the ensuing riots. Stuart Townsend, in his debut writing and directing role, seamlessly merges actual footage of the devastating chaos with brilliant performances. Starring Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, Ray Liotta, Michelle Rodriguez, Andre Benjamin.
