Protecting the People from the Powerful
In the lead up to September 17, 2012, the one-year anniversary of the occupation of Zuccotti Park, the NYPD blockaded the park and much of the financial district with concrete block barricades. Who are they protecting? Are they protecting Wall Street bankers from the people, or could it be the other way around? There is a slippage that occurs in the occupation of symbols, stories, institutions, and events.
