Expeditions

Expeditions

Expeditions are opportunities to connect the content and subjects of natural history museum displays to greater global contexts, which include the social and political forces that shape the natural world. We take small groups on expeditions that range from day trips to week-long excursions.

Our mobile museum bus can bring communities on the front lines of the climate crisis in NYC to meet with communities fighting extraction, infrastructure or other climate-change related projects in other parts of the country. These “reality tours” involve potluck dinners, hikes, ecology tours and workshops performed in collaboration with local groups, scientists, environmentalists, and others. They bring movement leaders together, and provide participants with firsthand experience of environmental sites, inspiring them get involved. They allow us to reach audiences in diverse cities, suburbs, rural areas, including underserved communities who may not have access to a natural history museum or a cultural center. They are rich storytelling opportunities, with blogs, photographs and video documents that can reach a broad audience and be useful campaign tools for these community groups.
